Baseball: Branch drops slugfest to Salem; fall to 5th in 8-AAAAA

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Salem completed the sweep of Flowery Branch Saturday in a key Region 8-AAAAA contest at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

The Falcons, despite an eight-hit attack, fell 12-7 to the Seminoles.

The loss dropped Flowery Branch (12-5, 7-5 Region 8-AAAAA) into fifth place in the region standings and one game behind Winder-Barrow (12-6, 8-4). The two teams’ open a home-and-home series on Monday in Winder.

Andrew Nolt paced the Falcons with three hits, including a triple, and two RBI. Trey Rhodes had a double and two RBI and Jonathan Hughes had a pair of hits for Flowery Branch.

Stephen Skeggs had one hit but also took the loss on the mound for the Falcons. Mark Kilcoyne had one hit and one RBI for Flowery Branch.

Salem (13-5, 7-3) climbed into third place with the win. The Seminoles have won three straight and four of their last five
