Banks Co. Commission Chair involved in fight with resident

COMMERCE - Banks County authorities say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is checking into a reported altercation between Banks County Commission Chairman Jimmy Hooper and a local resident.

The reported altercation between Hooper and resident William Reems occurred Tuesday morning at a Banks Crossing business.

Because the incident involved an elected county official, Sheriff Carlton Speed has requested agents with the GBI investigate the fight.

GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang confirmed that agency's involvement Tuesday morning.

"I will tell you that we have been requested to assist in doing some interviews regarding this," Lang said. "Anything we come up with will be turned over to the D.A."
