Banks County teacher arrested for family violence

HOMER - A Banks County High School mathematics teacher remains jailed after his arrest Monday.

Cory Mahan, 44, of Alto was charged with simple battery under the Family Violence Act, according to Banks County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Carissa McFaddin.

"The charges stem from an investigation after a complaint was made by a state-mandated reporter on Monday," McFaddin said. "Mahan is still currently being held at the Banks County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Center, and he is awaiting a bond hearing."

McFaddin stressed the incident resulting in the charges is unrelated to his teaching responsibilities.

"I know that parents will start worrying because he is a teacher, but the FVA should take care of that it was nothing to do with the school," McFaddin said.
