DEMOREST - North Carolina novelist Jacob Paul will present a lecture, reading, and signing of his new book, "A Song of Ilan," at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at the Piedmont College Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art in Demorest.

A former OppenheimerFunds product manager, Paul now teaches creative writing at High Point University. His 2010 debut novel, "Sara/Sara," was selected as one of the top five first books of fiction by Poets & Writers magazine.

Paul's new book tells the story of Ilan Frank over the course of a single transformative day, as his increasingly uncertain hold on the woman he loves and his resurgent crisis of faith finally collide to undo his comfortable life as a financial adviser in New York City. "My novel is the product of a decades' struggle to understand how a crisis of faith could find answer in an act of terror," Paul said. "Now, nearly 14 years after 9/11, that question sadly seems as relevant as ever."

"Jacob is an engaging storyteller and conversationalist with a wide range of experiences to draw from," said Piedmont English professor Dr. Tim O'Keefe. "From growing up in an orthodox Jewish household; to cross-country (literally) cycling; to-most significantly-evacuating from the 34th floor of World Trade Center Tower 2 on Sept. 11, 2001, it promises to be an engaging, memorable event."
