Local DAR Chapter honors students, community members

GAINESVILLE - The Col. William Candler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated worthy students and community members Thursday during the chapter's annual Awards Tea.

Fifth-, eighth- and twelfth-grade students in the City of Gainesville and Hall County, as well as three adult community members, were selected for the awards:

*American History Essay Award: Enota Elementary fifth-grader Amanda Mullin won the American History Essay Award.

*DAR Good Citizens Award rewards the qualities of good citizenship among high school seniors. Grayze Anne Sepe (East Hall), Kyle Peterman (Flowery Branch), Thinh Nguyen (Gainesville). Dulce Maria Aguilar (Johnson), Robert Lipold (Lakeview), Emily Barnes (North Hall) and Samantha Alverson (West Hall) were all selected for the award. Emily Barnes (North Hall) was the essay contest winner. Miss Barnes's essay was sent to the district level to compete for the state essay award.

*DAR Youth Citizenship Award is awarded to eighth grade students. Emily Masters (CW Davis), Nicole Sedwick (Chestatee Academy), Oriah Talest Ware (Da Vinci), Ivey Shadburn (East Hall Middle), Morgan Leighann Nichol (Gainesville Middle), Reese Myers (Lakeview), Parker Shope (Maranatha), Andrew Harmon (North Georgia Christian), Emily Britt (North Hall Middle), Avery Arlene Marie Owen (South Hall Middle), and Kaylie Dover (West Hall Middle) were all awarded the Youth Citizenship Award.
*Junior American Citizen Award was awarded to fifth grade students for artwork, creative expression and citizenship. Amanda Mullin (Enota) was awarded for stamp art, Gabriel Vasquez (Enota) was awarded for poster art, Tiffhany Hernandez (Enota) was awarded for creative expression
