Hall Co. investigators look for the final pieces of puzzles in four cold case probes

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - Hall County criminal investigators are asking the public for help as they continue to try to solve four cold case murders.

Lt. Scott Wiley and Sgt. Dan Franklin with the Hall County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) have been working diligently on the cases of David Sanchez, Hannah Truelove, Shaun Taylor and Holly Strickland for years. However, as they told reporters at a Tuesday morning press conference at the HCSO headquarters on Main Street in Gainesville, they have run into dead ends on all four cases.

Wiley said they are making another appeal to the public because they feel someone knows something that will lead to suspects in each case.

"For whatever reason, they don't want to come forward," said Wiley. "Either their citizenship status or they feared the victim or the victim's associates in some way or they know the offender and they fear [him or her]."

Franklin said he is frustrated because he sees how the unsolved cases take a toll on family members.

"A lot of times when we're working these cases, they don't see what we're doing and so sometimes that gets equated to us not giving it the attention that it needs, but that is never the case," said Franklin.

By talking to reporters about these cases, both Wiley and Franklin said they hope that keeps the unsolved crimes in the public eye, and one day they'll get the tips they need to find those responsible for the murders.

None of the murders are related, other than the fact that all have remained unsolved for more than a year.

*David Sanchez, an Hispanic businessman who ran a check-cashing business, was shot to death on April 12, 2012 in the parking lot of Victory Foods off Memorial Park Road. Sanchez had gone to the business that day with a large amount of cash in order to cash checks for employees.

*Hannah Truelove was found dead on the shores of Lake Lanier near the Lanier Club Apartments on Dawsonville Highway on August 23, 2012. The 16-year-old Gainesville High School student had been stabbed to death.

*Rashaun Miguel Taylor, who went by the name Shaun, was discovered shot to death on Tulip Drive on December 21, 2013. Shaun had gotten into a vehicle with two men at the QT on Athens Highway between 7 and 8 that night. He asked a friend to follow them, but the friend lost sight of the vehicle.

*Holly Fox Strickland's body was discovered on a road behind the Oakwood home of her children's paternal grandparents a year ago. Investigators believe she was killed on either February 3 or February 4, 2014. While cause of death has not been released up until this point, investigators announced Monday that Strickland died of a gunshot wound.

Look for details on each case during AccessNorthGa.com's continuing series this week:

Tuesday, February 10: David Sanchez
Wednesday, February 11: Hannah Truelove
Thursday, February 12: Shaun Taylor
Friday, February 13: Holly Strickland
