Gainesville man arrested on drug charges after two months on the run

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man has been arrested by Hall County drug agents after being on the run since December.

According to Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad Lt. Scott Ware, an arrest warrant for possession of methamphetamine was issued for 65-year-old Chester Lamar Thomas on December 3, 2014. In May of 2014, a quantity of methamphetamine was seized from Thomas's residence in the 3900 block of Pete's Drive.

"An arrest warrant was obtained for this seizure in May and December of 2014 for possession of methamphetamine," said Ware. "On December 11, agents attempted to serve the arrest warrant and did not locate Mr. Thomas, but did recover additional quantities of methamphetamine - approximately 13 grams - and 34 Hydromorphone tablets."

Ware said Hydromorphone is a Schedule II opiate-based narcotic.

Additional warrants from that discovery - possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of Hydromorphone with intent to distribute - were obtained on December 12, Ware said.

Thomas remained a fugitive until Sunday. "He was arrested by Sheriff's Deputies with the Warrants Division in the wooded area behind his home."

Ware said in a press release issued earlier Monday that the drugs seized in this case total about $3,000 on the street.
