Chestatee hires Conley to take over football program

GAINESVILLE —Chestatee High School announced on Thursday that it has hired Shaun Conley to take over the War Eagles football program, pending school board approval.

Conley replaces Bill Forman, who left the position at the conclusion of the 2015 season, following an 0-10 campaign -- the first winless mark in program history.

Conley is a longtime assistant in northeast Georgia, including stints with White County (eight years), Union County (three years), Flowery Branch (12 years), and, most recently at Peachtree Ridge (two years) in Suwanee. As quarterbacks coach with the Lions Conley helped Peachtree Ridge to back-to-back second round Class AAAAAA playoff appearances.

Chestatee athletic director Ben Corley said in a press statement that there was interest from a number of coaches for the War Eagle head coaching job, but Conley was their top choice.

“He has an innovative offensive mind and will bring energy and excitement to Chestatee football.  He will give our young men a great high school football experience that will be a positive influence on their lives,” said Corley.

Conley helped inaugurate the program at Flowery Branch and coached future NFL players Connor Shaw and Izaan Cross while with the Falcons.
