Banks County captures kidnapping, assault suspect

HOMER - Banks County deputies have captured a man wanted for serious crimes in that county and on an outstanding warrant from Hall County.

Banks County Sheriff's Sgt. Carissa McFaddin said Matthew Theodore Samples was captured about 12:45 p.m. near the area where he originally was reported to be Tuesday afternoon.

"He was located by Banks County deputies in a wooded area on Windmill Farm Road property near Highway 441," McFaddin said.

McFaddin said he was concealed inside the foliage of a tree and was arrested without major incident.

"We had received information that he might still be in the area, and we began our search again," she said. "We had a great perimeter set up. We had plenty of manpower and were trying to flush him out if he was there."

That area is just off Highway 441 near the Banks County Law Enforcement Center, Georgia Department of Transportation, and new Banks County Division of Family and Children Services building.

"The only thing he had on him was a knife," McFaddin said of Samples' arrest. "He did not have a firearm."

Samples is facing Banks County warrants for kidnapping and aggravated assault.

"The incident stemmed from a domestic situation that occurred between him and the female victim at a residence Monday afternoon," McFaddin said. "It was not a random incident."

McFaddin said they are not releasing any information about the victim.

Additionally, deputies remained in nearby schools Wednesday in case Samples was still in the area.

"We appreciate the assistance of the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Banks County Fire/EMS and the Banks County E-9-1-1 Center," McFaddin said. "We have been investigating this since Monday evening."
