Officials cut the ribbon on Cherokee Bluffs Park in South Hall

FLOWERY BRANCH—Cherokee Bluffs Park in southern Hall County is officially open following a ceremonial ribbon cutting Friday morning in one of the park's pavilions.

The 168-acre park sits off of Black Jack Road in Flowery Branch, near the Sterling on the Lake subdivision.

"I just like the way it looks and feels ... kind of like the mountains," said Jennifer Graves, of Buford, who was there with her son Stephen, 10.

She added that the park, which features a 300-seat ampitheater and several walking trails, is great for children.

"I have a 10-year-old and a 4-year-old, and (Stephen) loves museums, so I'm excited about the museum with all the artifacts in it," said Graves, referencing the history room located in one of the buildings.

"I think it's going to be a great place for all of us to come and enjoy. Our area is growing, and we have a lot of young families in the area."

Local government officials were on hand for the event, which happened at 11:00 a.m.

"This project has been a long time coming," said Ken Rearden, Hall County Public Works Director.

The total budget for the park came to $2.8 million, which was paid for with funds from the county's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST VI) and from impact fees.

"I think this park speaks for itself," said Kathy Cooper, Hall County Commissioner. The park sits in her district.

The park is located at 5867 Black Jack Road, Flowery Branch.
