Region 8-AAAA softball: Lady Wolves take title in thriller over North Hall

BUFORD — Buford won the Region 8-AAAA girls softball title in thrilling fashion Monday.

The Lady Wolves beat North Hall 1-0 in a classic pitcher's duel scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a North Hall throwing error.

Buford's Logan Caymol (5-1) went the distance allowing just one hit while striking out 10. North Hall’s Kendyl Chase wnt seven-plus innings fanning six and yielding just three hits.

After holding North Hall scoreless in the top of the eighth inning, Buford (22-6) loaded the bases with no one out when senior Baylee Sexton drew a walk. Senior Lea Edwards laid down a bunt which was fielded by Chase, who forced out Buford’s Aislynn Kimbro trying to score. North Hall catcher Niki Carver then threw to second trying to pick off Sexton but the throw sailed high and into centerfield allowing the Buford's runner Biz Walters to score the winning run.
 
Senior Breanna Gutierrez had two hits and junior Samantha Thomas had one hit for Buford.

Camilla Howell had the lone hit for North Hall.

The Lady Wolves will play Woodward Academy, the No. 4 seed from Region 5, and North Hall will play host to Troup County. in a pair of best 2-of-three series in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs. Double-headers will be on Wednesday. Game 3, if necessary, will be Thursday.
