The Gainesville volleyball team took out Loganville (25-21, 25-23) in the first round of the Area 8-AAAAA volleyball tournament on Thursday.
Sydney King led the Lady Red Elephants (32-11) with 2 digs, 1 ace and 1 assist; Tangi Miller had 4 blocks; Tanai Watson had 9 kills, 1 block, and 2 digs; Abby Alexander added three kills and a block; Anna Wylie had 1 kill and 3 blocks; Savannah Roys had 3 aces, 12 assists, and 9 digs; Ashley Filson, Sally Callahan, Caroline Mercer, and Emily Sloan all contributed defensively towards the win.
The 8-AAAAA tournament resumes at Apalachee at 9 a.m. Saturday with Gainesville facing Clarke-Central.
