Portion of Sardis Road washed out, to be closed for repairs

GAINESVILLE - Part of Sardis Road washed out Friday morning following heavy rains, shutting down the roadway.

The washed out portion of road is between the compactor site and Sardis Elementary School, according to a release from Hall County Government.

County Administrator Randy Knighton said in the release that the county is working with an on-call contractor to repair the roadway as quickly as possible.

Hall County Schools spokesman Gordon Higgins encouraged parents picking up their kids to turn left on Fran Marr Drive, in front of Chestatee Middle, then take the right fork in the road to Brackett Road, which will dead-end at Sardis. Then, he said to take a right, past Chestatee High School and the Elementary School will be on the right.

Higgins said the washout is not in front of any communities, so no children or routes are inexcessible, but he believes the repair will take some time.

At last report, Hall County Officials said the road was completely shut down until further notice. The compactor site, however, remains open.
