Gwinnett police arrest teenage girl, woman in Auburn murder

AUBURN - Gwinnett County Police have arrested a teenage girl and a woman, in addition to the adult male suspect already in custody, in the murder of an Auburn man late last year, according to Cpl. Jake Smith, spokesman for the Police Department.

The two suspects, 27-year-old Kathryn Voight and 16-year-old Marckell Honeycutt, were arrested Monday.

"Usually we would not identify a juvenile but we do in cases like this, where the crime is a serious one," said Smith. Smith also said all three suspects had been previously arrested for crimes unrelated to the murder.

Brian Whitfield, 45, was found shot to death in the driveway of his Flowery Branch Road home in unincorporated Auburn shortly after 9:45 a.m. December 6.

Several items were missing from Whitfield's home, including his truck - a 2005 Dodge Ram "Rumblebee" edition. The truck was later found in Atlanta, partially stripped and unoccupied. Several tips were called in to the police.

On December 12, Gwinnett County Police and Griffin Police arrested a suspect, 26-year-old Marquavis Benton for felony murder and armed robbery.

"Since that time, detectives identified two other people who participated in the crime - we're not getting in to their exact roles at this time," said Smith. Voight and Honeycutt were arrested Monday.

Voight and Benton are in the Gwinnett County jail without bond, while Honeycutt is in custody at a Regional Youth Dentention Center. All three are charged with felony murder and armed robbery.

Honeycutt will be charged as an adult in the case.

Smith said Honeycutt and Benton were taken into custody without incident, while Voight was already in custody on an unrelated charge in Cobb County.
