Atheist group files complaint against another N. Ga. school system

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The atheist group out of Washington, D.C. that filed a complaint against the Hall County School System over football team prayers at Chestatee High School has now filed a complaint against another high school in north Georgia.<br /> <br /> The American Humanist Association is demanding that Madison County High School remove a monument at the school's football stadium in Danielsville. The monument, called the "Red Raider," was just unveiled this year. The statue is engraved with two Bible verses and also contains the school logo.<br /> <br /> The AHA sent a letter to school district officials, requesting that the monument be removed from school property or at least have the engraving changed.<br /> <br /> Until the monument can be removed or altered, the group wants school officials to cover it.<br /> <br /> "Numerous cases make clear that public schools are prohibited from taking a position, or even appearing to take a position, on religious belief," said Monica Miller, an attorney with the Appignani Humanist Legal Center. "Erecting a monument on school property that includes Christian scripture sends the unequivocal message to school children that the school is endorsing religion."<br /> <br />
