Plans for brewery in Gainesville in the works

GAINESVILLE - Anheuser-Busch has nothing to worry about but a brewery, actually a microbrewery, is in the works in Gainesville.<br /> <br /> The city Planning and Appeals Board Tuesday will be asked to rezone a piece of property on the west side of town, just off Jesse Jewell Parkway, so that it can be used for a microbrewery expected to employ 22 people, working "two or three" shifts over the next 5-7 years.<br /> <br /> Dictionary.reference.com defines a microbrewery as "a brewery producing less than 15,000 barrels per year and usually concentrating on exotic or high quality beer."<br /> <br /> Left Nut Brewing Co. wants to locate the brewery in the Peck Building, which is at the corner of Maple and Parker streets and is asking that the property be rezoned from General Business (G-B) to Light Industrial (L-I).<br /> <br /> The applicant also says public tours and tastings would be offered Tuesday-Saturday after 5:00 p.m.<br /> <br /> The planning and appeals board meets at 5:15 Tuesday at the Gainesville Justice Center/Public Safety Complex on Queen City Parkway.<br />
