Longstreet Society to host reception celebrating life of Gen. Longstreet's granddaughter

GAINESVILLE - The Longstreet Society will host a memorial reception celebrating the life of Jamie Louise Longstreet Paterson on Saturday, September 13 at 11:00. <br /> <br /> Paterson died in Virginia on August 5. <br /> <br /> The reception will be held at the society's headquarters at the Piedmont Hotel at 827 Maple Street in Gainesville after a private burial service at Alta Vista Cemetery. <br /> <br /> Paterson was born July 22, 1930 in Gainesville, and was the daughter of Fitz Randolph Longstreet and Zelia Stover Longstreet and granddaughter of <br /> the society's namesake, Confederate Gen. James Longstreet. Gen. Longstreet lived in Gainesville after the Civil War and owned the Piedmont.<br /> <br /> Call 770-539-9005 for information.<br />

Police have identified a man shot near the Underground
Police have identified a man shot near the Underground Atlanta shopping and entertainment complex in the city's downtown area. Authorities say the suspected gunman ran to Underground Atlanta after firing shots at another man near Peachtree Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
