ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta police say they have arrested the mother of a 3-year-old boy believed to have shot himself in the face.
Angel N. Douglas was booked at the Fulton County jail Friday on charges of reckless conduct and cruelty to children. The 22-year-old woman was arrested the day after her son was hospitalized with injuries from what police suspect was an accidental gunshot.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports police are saying the boy is in stable condition. Police say their preliminary investigation indicated the child may have been playing with the gun when it fired Thursday night.
Police say in a news release that no bond had been set for the wounded boy's mother. It was not immediately known if she had an attorney.
A bill that would levy an annual $5,000 on strip clubs and fine pimps $2,500 to set up a fund for sexually exploited children is scheduled to be signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Nathan Deal, topping off what some legislators are calling the ``year of the child'' in the 2015 General Assembly.
At the National Association of School Resource Officer annual NASRO National Conference in Orlando, Florida this summer, Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch and Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield will be presented with the Regional Exceptional Service Award.
