N. Hall firm leads way in helping retired DeKalb Co. fireman

By Ken Stanford Reporter
MURRAYVILLE - Thanks in no large part to a North Hall company, a retired DeKalb County fireman who has health problems and whose home was in much need of a new roof, is seeing an improvement in his quality of life.

Upon hearing reports of the dilemma facing Doug Marks, Crown Roofing in Murrayville swung into action.

Co-owner Laura Webb says one of the things Marks and his wife Maxine needed was a roof. So, on August 2, according to Webb, the rafters at their house were replaced as well as the roof decking and roof.

"All of the materials and (construction) dumpster were donated for the cause," Webb said. " General contractors, roofers, carpenters and other volunteers came from the Gainesville area and volunteered their Saturday for this man (who was) the first EMT in Dekalb County and one of the first fireman DeKalb hired. It was an amazing day to know how much went into this and how selfless these people and businesses are.
