FLOWERY BRANCH - The Georgia Department of Transportation said a portion of Friendship Road will remain closed until at least 7 p.m. while repairs are made to the road following a gas main rupture Wednesday morning.

GDOT's Teri Pope said the rupture occurred around 10 a.m.

"A city of Buford contractor was working along the newly-opened lanes of State Route 347 when they hit a gas main - a six inch gas main," said Pope.

She said the pressure of the leak damaged the roadway, so even though the leak has been stopped, there will still need to be repairs made to the road.

At last report, the eastbound lanes of Friendship Road (SR 347) are open, but the westbound lanes between Highway 211 and Spout Springs Road are closed.
