Gwinnett Police release suspect photos in Buford robbery

By Derreck Booth Anchor/reporter
BUFORD - Gwinnett County Police Friday afternoon released photos of three male suspects wanted in the armed robbery of a store in Buford last Wednesday afternoon.

The robbery happened at a business called Dollar Store on South Lee Street around 4:00 p.m., according to Gwinnett County Police Corporal Jake Smith.

Investigators said the suspects entered the store wearing masks, produced a handgun, directed the clerk to remove jewelry from display cases and then used zip ties to restrain her.

"She was not seriously injured. She had some minor injuries from being zip-tied, nothing serious," Smith said.

Smith said the suspects took money from the cash register and left through the emergency exit of the store. He said the clerk was able to get free and call police from a neighboring business.

"The dollar value of the stolen jewelry was $20,000, which seemed odd for a dollar store, but apparently that apparently that is just the name of their store and they're not associated with the chain," Smith said.

There were customers in the business at the time of the robbery, but Smith said they escaped.

"When those customers realized what was going on they made a quick exit, and the suspects did not make an effort to stop those witnesses," Smith said.

He said no one saw a vehicle associated with the suspects.

Smith asked anyone with information on the robbery to contact his department's robbery unit detectives at (770) 513-5300. He said anonymous tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS or visit the Crime Stoppers website listed below. Tipsters to Crime Stoppers are eligible for up to $2000.00 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.

www.crimestoppersatlanta.org.
