Multi-use trail dedicated in White County

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio
CLEVELAND - A new recreation venue at the White County Park YMCA officially opened over the weekend.

The first section of a multi-use trail was dedicated Saturday morning.

Lynn Adams, Parks YMCA director, said many people were involved in getting them where they are now.

"This trail is the first leg of a perimeter trail that will cover the areas of buildings and ballfields," Adams said. "It follows a section of the Gainesville and Northwestern Railroad bed, which was the only railroad to serve White County and was used to transport mill products. The railroad has not been in service since the early '30s, and we're proud to have a portion of the trail following that historical route."

The trail, located just inside the entrance of the park, can be used by hikers, cyclists and anyone wanting to get out into nature.

Adams said key contributors to the trail include White County government, YMCA, SORBA (Southeast Off Road Bicycle Association), local Scouts and many volunteers.

Clark Neal with the Northeast Georgia SORBA said it's been a long journey and the group was glad to have a part in developing the trail.

Adams said the trail is now open and he invites everyone to come use it.
