Child drowns in Clermont swimming pool

CLERMONT - A 16-month-old boy has died after falling into a swimming pool at a Clermont home.

John Marshall, a spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened around 5:10 Wednesday afternoon.

"The child had been in the house and stepped outside and was unnoticed," said Marshall.

He said officials from both Hall County EMS and the Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. Marshall declined to name the specific address where the drowning occurred.

The child was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he died as a result of the fall into the pool.

Marshall said a death investigation is underway.
