6-year-old struck and killed by vehicle in Buford

By Staff
BUFORD - A small child died Saturday after being run over by a relative's vehicle in Buford.

According to Sgt. Brian Doan with the Gwinnett County Police Department, authorities were called to the 5000-block of Oak Grove Drive following initial reports of a 6-year-old boy that had been struck by a pickup truck.

Doan said the young boy, along with his 11-year-old brother, was riding in the bed of his father's truck as it was being backed into the driveway when the child jumped out of the vehicle. It was at this point that the child was run over by the truck, which at the time was towing a trailer.

The boy, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta were he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Gwinnett County Accident Investigation Unit.
