Gwinnett authorities look for clues in animal cruelty case

By Staff
LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County authorities are looking for the owner of a badly injured mixed breed dog that showed up at a pharmacy in Lilburn last week. They say the dog's ears had been cut off and the back of his head was burned.

Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement officers responded to an animal cruelty call at the CVS drug store on Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn on March 6. Employees told officers the injured dog had wandered into the store. Officers took the dog, which appeared to be a mixed breed pit bull, to the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter. The dog, a male, is thought to be about seven years old.

Investigators are looking for information on how the dog was injured. Anyone with information should contact Animal Control Officer Joey Brooks at 770-339-3200.

For the time being, the dog will only be available to rescue organizations for adoption purposes.
