Cyclist killed when struck by car in Clarke Co.

By The Associated Press
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a crash that killed a teenage bicyclist over the weekend.

Police said in a release that 19-year-old Tobias Smith was riding along Winterville Road when he was hit from behind by a woman driving a 2006 Mazda 3 on Saturday night.

Police say the driver tried swerving to avoid Smith, who wasn't equipped with lights or reflective materials. The teen was pronounced dead at the Athens Regional Medical Center.

It's unclear whether charges will be filed.
