GAINESVILLE - Two people were injured when a Jeep struck a Gainesville City school bus Monday morning just before 8 a.m.

Sgt. Anthony Coleman with the Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened on EE Butler Parkway at the intersection with Summit Street when the Jeep ran a red light and hit the bus.

"The driver of the Jeep stated that the sun was in his (sic) eyes - there was a glare - didn't see the traffic light," said Coleman.

He said witnesses to the accident confirmed there was a glare from the morning sun that could have contributed to the crash.

Coleman said the impact caused the Jeep to overturn completely, coming back to rest on its tires after it flipped. He said the driver, 37-year-old Amy Richardson of Cumming, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. In addition, the driver of the school bus, 61-year-old Susan Jarrard, complained of injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Coleman did not know to which school the children were being transported.

None of the five children on board the bus sustained injuries.
