OAKWOOD - Lanier Technical College was recently named the 2014 College of the Year by the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG).

Each December the board chooses the Perdue Award winner from among the 23 colleges in the system. State Board Chairman Joe Yarbrough made the announcement at the board's monthly meeting in Atlanta Thursday.

"We're just very excited and thrilled to have earned this award and recognition from our state board," said College President Dr. Ray Perren. "We just want to continue to do everything we can to provide our students with outstanding educational opportunities , and this award validates that's what we're doing."

Dr. Perren accepted the award on behalf of the school. He said the award was well-deserved.

"All of our technical colleges in Georgia are outstanding," said Perren. "We believe that one of the things that maybe distinguishes us from the others that our faculty are just so committed to the success of our students and are just so passionate about the programs in which they teach."

This was the first time Lanier Tech won the Perdue Award in the five years since it has been awarded.
