DAHLONEGA - Lumpkin County authorities have confirmed two men found dead in a private pond over the weekend in Lumpkin County died as a result of drowning.
The bodies of Willie James Armstrong, 68, of Fayetteville, Ga. and Ronald Walker, 61, of Maryland, were pulled from the two-acre pond off Highway 52 Sunday. The two had gone to the pond to fish on Saturday, but never returned home, according to Lumpkin County authorities.
The caretaker of the property was called to check on the pair, and he discovered an overturned boat in the water.

Initially, authorities incorrectly identified the owner of a car on the property as one of the victims, instead of Armstrong. The two men apparently had borrowed that vehicle, leading to the confusion.
Investigators said the drownings are believed to be accidental.
