Charges filed in murder of Dawsonville dad

DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County authorities have made an arrest in a shooting death that happened last month at a home on Whitney Place in Dawsonville when two parents got into an argument.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said authorities served a warrant Thursday on 50-year-old Herman James Seppenfield.

"He's been charged with one count of murder for shooting and killing - causing the death - of Brandon Weaver on November 22," said Wooten.

Wooten said Seppenfield was arrested without incident and at last report, remained at the Dawson County Detention Center.

The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred at the Seppenfield home on Whitney Place near Dawsonville. Wooten said the victim's son had attended a birthday party at the house and he became uncomfortable with some of the activities at the party. The boy apparently left the party on foot, and his parents picked him up a few miles from the Seppenfield home.

"Later that night, Mr. Weaver returned back to the residence with a family member, a fight ensued and Mr. Weaver was shot there at the property," said Wooten.

Wooten did not discuss specifics of the argument, saying only that the fight escalated and became deadly.

The 37-year-old Weaver, according to community reports, was a popular coach with youth teams in the Dawson County area.
