Girls basketball: Lady Elephants roll past Heritage in 8-AAAAA opener

GAINESVILLE -- The Gainesville girls opened Region 8-AAAA play with a solid 59-28 win over Heritage, Conyers Tuesday at the Gainesville gym.<br /> <br /> The Lady Elephants (2-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) blew open a close game with a 21-3 second quarter for a 33-11 halftime lead. Gainesville led by as many as 26 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Lady Patriots 11-6 in the fourth quarter.<br /> <br /> Taylor Hawks paced Gainesville with 16 points. Shikiya Brown added 12 points and Kayla Kelly 11 for the Lady Elephants.<br /> <br /> Gainesville next will travel to Loganville on Friday in another 8-AAAAA battle.<br />
