GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Commissioners is to hold a public hearing Thursday on the proposed abandonment of a section of Tumbling Creek Circle. A second hearing is planned Nov. 13.

On Friday, the railroad crossing on that road was closed due to the high number of car-train collisions.

But, not all commissioners agree that the road or even the crossing should be closed.

Earlier this year, Commissioner Billy Powell pointed out the crossing is used by more than 400 motorists each day and closing it would be impractical.

The section of road in questions runs from Tumbling Creek Road to Old Oakwood Road.
Commissioners at one point discussed building a bridge as an alternative way to travel over the railroad tracks, but the least expensive construction estimate for a bridge was $3.5 million.
