Suwanee woman identified as victim in pedestrian accident

LAWRENCEVILLE - The woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-85 northbound Friday morning apparently was intoxicated, and police said her condition likely contributed to her death.

Investigators said 23-year-old Briahna Baker of Suwanee was a passenger in a vehicle heading northbound on I-85. They said Baker got into an argument with the driver of the car; the driver pulled to the side of the interstate and Baker got out of the car.

Police said the driver pulled away and left Baker behind. Officers responded to the scene on I-85 near Sugarloaf Parkway around 4:30 a.m. when motorists began calling about the woman stumbling along the interstate.

By the time officers arrived to investigate, Baker had been struck and killed by a northbound vehicle.

At this point in the investigation, Gwinnett authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor in Baker's death.

Two right-hand lanes of I-85 northbound remained closed until around 7 a.m. while the investigation was underway.
