Train hits SUV in Chatham County, 2 killed

By The Associated Press
PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (AP) Police in Coastal Georgia say two people have died in train crash.

Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Julian Miller tells WSAV-TV the train hit a SUV that bypassed warning arms at a railroad crossing in Port Wentworth Sunday afternoon.

Miller says the vehicle was hit by the train as soon as it crossed onto the tracks.

Police say one passenger was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in critical condition and another is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The identities of the two who were killed in the crash have not been released.

Port Wentworth is about five miles northwest of downtown Savannah.
