Woman jailed on DUI, other charges after Tues. morning crash

MURRAYVILLE - A Forsyth County woman faces charges including DUI following a Tuesday morning car crash that sent a 17-year-old to an Atlanta hospital in critical condition.

Cpl. C.E. Parker with the Gainesville Post of the Georgia State Patrol said Kathryn Pledger, 24, of Cumming was traveling northbound on Thompson Bridge Road near Willow Oak Drive just north of the Squirrel Creek Bridge when her Kia Optima crossed the center line of the road.

Parker said Pledger's car hit a southbound Acura head on.

The Acura driver, 17 year old James Baird of Flowery Branch, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment, according to Tracey Watson with the Georgia Department of Public Safety Public Information Office.

Baird's front seat passenger, 17 year old Jessica Tanner of Gainesville, was flow to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Authorities charged Pledger with DUI, serious injury by vehicle, failure to maintain lane and expired registration, according to Watson. Pledger complained of injury but refused transport to the hospital, according to GSP.

Thompson Bridge Road was closed for almost two hours as troopers investigated the crash.

The incident occurred just before 10 a.m.
