GAINESVILLE - Hall County Fire Services is on track to get two new pumper trucks at a discount price from a low bidder that has provided fire trucks to the county for years.
Rosenbauer Life Line Emergency Vehicles of Lyons, South Dakota LLC, and its Georgia vendor, Southern Emergency Products of Flintstone, Georgia submitted the low bid for two pumper trucks. County commissioners learned this week that by purchasing two trucks they could save money. The low bid for both trucks was $1,079,605.04,or $539,802.52 each.
"Since the Commission voted to approve the increase in the Fire Fund, we can get a discount if we order two trucks instead of one," Purchasing Manager Tim Sims said. "In addition to that when the chassis come in if we pay for that up front, once we get the title in hand, they'll give us an additional $5,784 off of each truck.
Sims said one truck would be funded by SPLOST (5) revenues, and the other with Fire Fund money. Fire Services Chief David Kimbrell said the trucks, when they arrive in about a year, will be a welcome addition to the fleet.
"One Truck is purchased out of SPLOST to go into the new station on the drawing board, Station Number 16. The other will go as a general replacement; we haven't purchased capital equipment in about five years. We're about five years behind and this will hopefully start us back on replacing some worn out capital equipment."
The Chief said one truck up for replacement is 22 years old. The new trucks are a bit more sophisticated and improved than the ones Hall County purchased the last time.
"They have a lot more technology plus a tremendous amount of EPD regulations," Kimbrell added. "There's diesel exhaust fluid that has to go in these and there are several different additional requirements that the National Fire Protection Administration puts on us, so there's been quite a bit of change."
