Cobb Co. man convicted in potty training beating

By The Associated Press
AUSTELL - An Austell man accused of whipping a toddler in his groin out of frustration with potty training has been convicted of first degree child cruelty.

Cobb County District Attorney's spokeswoman Kim Isaza says 31-year-old Andrew Charles Pride is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday morning in Cobb County Superior Court.

Officials say Pride whipped a 22-month old boy multiple times in his groin because he wouldn't use the toilet in August 2012. Authorities say the beating caused bleeding and welts.

Prosecutors say a jury was unable to render a verdict on a second charge that accused Pride of trying to convince an older child to tell investigators they not pride had caused the toddler's injuries.
