Hall Co. investigators ask for help in finding armed robbery suspect

By B.J. Williams
CLERMONT - Hall County Sheriff's investigators have released still photos and video footage of an armed robbery that happened last month at a store on Highway 52 near the Lumpkin County line.

Authorities said they would like assistance from the public in identifying the man who entered the Country Grocery and Deli, located at 6531 Dahlonega Highway, around 8 p.m. on May 31.

"A white male subject entered the store brandishing a knife," said Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks. "He also stated he had a handgun tucked in his waistband and he demanded money from the store clerk."

Wilbanks said the suspect fled from the store when the clerk picked up a flashlight near the cash register and chased him. He said the suspect managed to grab cash before he ran.

The suspect was driving a white Ford Crown Victoria and left the store traveling north on Dahlonega Highway. Wilbanks said witnesses described the suspect as about 5'6" to 5'9" tall, 150 to 160 lbs., with brown facial hair.

In addition to the clerk, there were two other employees in the store. No one was hurt.

Wilbanks said anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Hall County Sheriff's Office at 770-531-6879 or leave an anonymous tip at 770-503-3232.
