CLEVELAND - The City of Cleveland opened bids Monday for a major sewer improvement project for the south side of the city.
The project is expected to have a major impact on the commercial development in that area. The Truelove Road sewer project was split into four different divisions with bids received in each area.
Cleveland City Engineer Brian Rindt said the commercial sewer system on Highway 129 south reached its capacity several years ago.
"The city had to turn down potential development of people who what to come in and build restaurants and things like that in that corridor," Rindt said. "This project totally opens up that corridor for development - commercial development."
A total of nine contracting firms placed bids on the different phases of the project. Rindt opened the bids and announced the apparent low bidders for each division. He said they will review the bids to make sure everything is proper, and then will submit a formal proposal to the city council for its approval.
Rindt said the city hopes to get started on the much-anticipated projects within 30 days.
According to Rindt, four different funding agencies are involved in the this expansion project.
