Basketball: Flowery Branch boys tap Winder-Barrow's Sokol

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Flowery Branch boys basketball team has a new head coach -- again.

Flowery Branch Athletic Director Shannon Benton announced Monday that David Sokol, currently the head basketball coach at Winder-Barrow, will take over the Falcons program beginning next season.

Sokol's selection is still pending final board approval.

Sokol will replace coach Duke Mullis, who resigned from his position following the 2012-13 season. Sokol is the second coach to take the position since Mullis stepped down. Former North Hall coach Benjie Wood accepted the job but then resigned to take over at Gainesville.

Sokol was the coach at Winder-Barrow from 2009-2012. The Bulldoggs' most successful season the 2009-10 season when they were the Region 8-AAAA runners-up, compiling a 21-7 record and advancing to the Class AAAA state tournament.

Prior to that, Sokol was head boys coach at South Forsyth from 2002-09, where he led the War Eagles to three Sweet 16 appearances and had three season with 20 or more wins.
