Man in coma after beating outside Villa Rica bar

VILLA RICA, Ga. (AP) Authorities say a man was in a coma after a beating outside a bar in the small west Georgia town of Villa Rica.

Relatives of 21-year-old Chase Mayfield say he was in intensive care at the Atlanta Medical Center after they say he being beaten unconscious by a group of men on Friday.

Mayfield's brother, Cody Mayfield, said that the beating took place early Friday outside of Stix Bar and Grill in Villa Rica.

Cody Mayfield said his brother was trying to stop a friend from driving when a group of men hit and kicked him and continued to beat him after he was unconscious.

Three suspects were taken into custody and face aggravated assault and battery charges. It wasn't known Monday whether the men have attorneys.
