Teen drowns in Cherokee Co. reservoir

CANTON - A teenager swimming with a friend in a reservoir drowned Wednesday afternoon, according to Cherokee County authorities.

The 17-year-old boy, whose name has not yet been released, was swimming in Hickory Log Creek Reservoir around 1:45 when he began to struggle in the water. A friend swimming with the teen told rescuers he had tried to save teen before he swam to shore to call for help.

Cherokee County divers found the body around 5 p.m.

The reservoir apparently had been open for fishing last month, but was restricted for swimmers.
