Rabun Co. family wants answers in beating of autistic woman

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - Authorities in Rabun County will say only that an investigation is underway following the severe beating of a 22-year-old autistic woman from Clayton, but her family wants some answers.

Ashley Hamilton is currently recovering from the beating at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Her mother, Kelly Hamilton, told Fox 5 News she left the young woman with friends when she went out of town.

When she returned, she said Ashley was suffering from severe injuries to her face and feet.

"Her mouth was busted and her tooth was knocked out," said Hamilton.

The young woman, who family members say has the mental capacity of a 2-year-old, remains hospitalized at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Because of Ashley's limited abilities, she has not been able to say how she was injured.

Rabun County Sheriff's Office authorities confirmed with the TV station that an investigation is underway, but they offered no details in the case.

Family fiends have created a Facebook page in support of Ashley Hamilton. (See link below.)
