Wallet thief caught in North Carolina

By B.J. Williams
CHARLOTTE, NC - The man nicknamed the "office creeper" for stealing wallets from businesses across the metro Atlanta and north Georgia area, apparently has been caught in North Carolina.

Antonio Hornsby is being held in the Mecklenberg County Jail in Charlotte, according to jail records.

A man believed to be Hornsby was photographed on surveillance video in businesses in Winder and Braselton as well as in offices in a number of other cities around the state.

Hornsby used the same method to enter office buildings in all of the cases, posing as a some type of maintenance worker. He would tell managers that he needed to assess the areas that needed servicing and then would canvas the buildings, stealing wallets from workers.

A Winder Police Department spokesman said he has seen the jail record from Mecklenberg County, but he is unsure how Hornsby was arrested. He said the investigator in Winder will be working with NC officials on the cases that affect their city.
