Crossing guard injured in crash, Ga. man arrested

By Staff
CANTON - Sheriff's officials in Cherokee County say the driver who hit a crossing guard and fled the scene was running late for his graduation from drug court.

Sheriff's Spokesman Lt. Jay Baker says 20-year-old Victor Baruchman, of Woodstock, has been arrested on a felony hit and run charge in the crash that left a 63-year-old crossing guard with a broken ankle Monday. The crossing guard was treated and released from Northside Cherokee Hospital.

Baker says police were searching for a silver Honda with a large ``T'' sticker on the back window. Authorities say Baruchman scraped the sticker from the window and removed the car's front bumper before police arrived.

Baruchman is being held in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center on $15,000 bond, and it is unclear if he has an attorney.
