UGA to compare pay of male, female professors

By The Associated Press
ATHENS - The University of Georgia plans to compare the salaries of male and female professors in an attempt to find out whether they're getting equal pay for equal work and accomplishment.

UGA administrators will conduct the study in the next academic year.

Libby Morris, UGA's interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, discussed the study during a recent meeting of the UGA University Council's executive committee.

Such studies have been controversial.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that critics of a study about a decade ago say the method used by the UGA administration understated the gender gap.
