CLEVELAND - White County School System is losing two key administrators, both moving on to different courses in life.

In a surprise move, the White County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Middle School Principal Stephen Gill. According to Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson, Gill has been asked to take a active leadership position at the church he attends in the Atlanta area.

Wilson said it s going to be a great loss in leadership, but an opportunity for a new start to continued moving forward at the middle school. Gill has been with the White County School System since 2007, the majority of that time he served as Principal of the Ninth Grade Academy.

Another person that will be missed is Mossy Creek Elementary School principal Jennifer King. She is retiring at the end of the school year after serving in the school system for 27 years as teacher and administrator.

King said she has loved her time in the school system but is looking forward to spending more time with family.

"It's been an honor through the years to work beside some of the best educators in the state. I ve been truly blessed. It s been an honor to serve the families and the precious children of White County, and I feel like I have been very fortunate to work for superintendents and board members that have always been able to find ways to provide the best education possible for our boys and girls," King said.

Officials said the timing of the departures will give officials time to seek candidates to fill the positions before the next school year.

The school system discussed the announcements at Thursday's board of education meeting.
