GAINESVILLE - A Hall County grand jury Thursday indicted Jeffrey Simon Hubbard in last summer's death of an 11-year-old boy in a jet ski accident on Lake Lanier.
Hubbard, from Atlanta, was arrested by Hall County sheriff's officials Friday morning.
No bond was set for Hubbard, as he is being held in the Hall County Jail Officials said a bond hearing has not yet been entered.
Hubbard is accused of striking an inner tube with a jet ski on July 6, injuring Kile Glover, 11, and Glover's 15-year-old sister; the inner tube was being towed behind a pontoon boat. Kile suffered a severe brain injury in the crash and died 15 days later.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources outlined the charges against Hubbard: homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel, wreckless operation of a vehicle and unlawful operation of a PWC and boat traffic violation.
Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh confirmed the charges, noting that two of them are felonies, which carry the possibility of prison time if there's a conviction.
"Homicide by vessel is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, serious injury by vessel by up to five," said Darragh.
This particular accident has garnered national attention since Glover was the stepson of R&B singer Usher. The boy's mother Tameka Raymond and Usher were separated at the time of the accident.
The accident was one of two on Lake Lanier during the summer of 2012 that prompted boating legislation that is moving through the Georgia General Assembly this session. (See separate stories below.)
