GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization's 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) has been recognized as one of the best planning documents in the United States.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration and the Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council, studied long-range transportation plans from 359 MPOs in the country (excluding those in Florida) and determined that the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization's MTP exemplifies long-range planning ''best practices.''

''We are honored to receive this recognition, and we look forward to watching this plan unfold in the future as we make sure the transportation needs of Hall County citizens are met,'' said Srikanth Yamala, director of the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The recently published report by FDOT recognized the MTP as a good example of a descriptive plan that informs the public and speaks at an appropriate level that can easily be understood.

The Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization is the intergovernmental transportation planning body for Hall County and conducts the federally mandated metropolitan planning for the Gainesville Urbanized Area.
