GAINESVILLE - Ten couples celebrated a special Valentine's Day with individual wedding ceremonies at Hall County Probate Court Thursday.
Gary Galavitz of Flowery Branch has been battling cancer for two years. He told his girlfriend, Lauren Schultz, that if he was ever healthy enough to go on a honeymoon they'd get married. It happened Thursday.
"Two weeks ago the doctor told me I was healthy enough to go, so we came here and got our marriage license and booked the next Thursday. We didn't even look at the calander to know it was Valentine's Day," Galavitz said.
Probate Judge Patty Laine recently reintroduced weddings in the office, with all ceremonies being performed free of charge.
"It was a lot happier than the stuff we usually see. Yeah, smiling faces all day."
Galavitz and Schultz were off to Miami for a cruise.
The couple was one of nine scheduled for the free ceremonies. One couple renewed their vows after 22 years of marriage.
